Voila! became a partner of Modeliosoft.

Modeliosoft is a subsidiary of Softeam group, which is responsible for development and management of Modelio, an object-oriented UML tool.

Modelio is one of many UML tools. However, it is not just for creating UML diagrams but for giving object-oriented meanings to the diagrams. In other words, the diagrams created by Modelio can be utilized in designing and implementing real systems for which the diagram is made.

Even though there are numerous UML tools or modeling tools that have been developed and have been being used, the reason Voila! is interested in Modelio is that it does more than drawing diagrams but it is very open as it's basic module is open-source. We will explain more in the future blogs to be posted.

Voila! will supply Modelio and technical services to our customers, in a hope that the concept of modeling would be really practical helps in day-to-day works.

Thank you.

Praxeme: meaning in action

The representative of Voila! is pleased to announce that it became a member of Praxeme Institute. (As an individual, not the company yet)

Praxme is a non-profit institute organized for administration of all the activities of Praxeme methodology. The purpose of Praxeme methodology can be captured well by the objective on the home page as quoted below:

Enterprises and organizations have to confront their internal complexity as much as the uncertainty of their environment. In this struggle, decision-makers look for any and all tools available to them.

Praxeme provides them with a set of modeling and design techniques, covering all aspects of the enterprise, with a view to linking areas of expertise and encouraging ideas to circulate.

The proposed multidisciplinary approach aims to develop the enterprise description repository. This repository embodies the intellectual assets of the enterprise. It supplies the transformation efforts/endeavors and ensures an overall understanding of the enterprise, as seen in all its dimensions.

Thus, the methodology provides a holistic framework that covers all transformation disciplines, from strategy to deployment, bringing together both business knowledge and technical opportunities. As a result, it avoids investments being spread too thinly and channels the different energies towards the common good.

Praxeme is important to Voila! since it expects the methodology will provide the company an efficient and innovative methods to build its fundamental structure as well as the practical guidance. Not only will Voila! build its structure according to the methodology but also construct information system to be put into action day-to-day business. Those are among the works that were promised to be done in the previous article.

Voila!

It is registered.

Voila! is registered at Korean National Tax Service on August 28.

First questions that the company would receive from the public would be like the following: what does the company do?, what is the company established for? or generally which sector does the company belong to?

A quick answer would be that it is a software company. But it is not set in stone. It is not an easy question to answer. When it comes to specifically what the company will make, it gets more difficult. Some ideas can be brought up from the knowledges and experiences that have been acquired, and relationships that have been cultivated with people. But would that be a proper way to start a business? if a personal work is sought, the way would be sufficient. But if a business is established and it is luckily successful, the way would lead to usual and undesirable consequences. It is not unusual that many successful enterprises were started as a small startup with some ideas and opportunities and kept growing to sizable businesses. However, they are faced with changes and challenges in and from the market, they are confused and found themselves not prepared.

Let it find its way

When they have to make a decision for the next phase, the enterprise would usually rely on a person or a specific group of people; for example, CEO, a task force, technical experts, etc. No matther who makes the decision, most important thing is to make the decision on as much information as possible and not biased by interests or tendencies that represent a person or a group of people. It is why a well-formed system is important. A good system can even make the decision so evident to the decision maker.
So Voila! will be prepared first with a system like that.

The name

It is a French word voilà. According to Merriam-Webster, it means

used to call attention, to express satisfaction or approval, or to suggest an appearance as if by magic

There is no perfect Korean representation to enunciate the word. The closest representation sounds too strange to Korean. After many thoughts, Boila (English representation of the Korean word registered in office), following the hint given by a boy who sounded so with no understanding the meaning of the word. It sounds as Boiler to Koreans but it is better remembered than any other representations.
